How climate change is impacting Irish weather

The avg temperature has increased in Ireland over the last 30 years compared to 1961 to 1990. This article shows how our experiments tool can be used for observational studies as well as experiments. The data used for this observational study was downloaded from publicly available data from Met Éireann.

The average temperature in Ireland has increased by approximately 0.7°C, representing a rise of about 7.4%. In the delta plot below you can switch between relative change and absolute difference.

Minimum Temp Shows Greater Relative Increase

Febuary has the largest relative increase

Using our Experiments tool you can easily slice the results by any dimensions available. The following plot shows the results broken down by month. February and May show the largest absolute temperature increase, with each rising by approximately 1.0°C.

Data

For this observational study we downloaded data from similar weather stations as this analysis conducted by Met Éireann. Data from the following weather stations was used - Cork Airport, Shannon Airport, Belmullet, Claremorris, Mullingar, Malin Head, Roches Point, Valentia Observatory, Casement, Derrygreenagh. We used the daily data for each station and uploaded this data to our Experiments tool.
